Curve: Transforming Careers into Dynamic Visual Stories

Curve is a career tool that transforms a static LinkedIn profile into a dynamic and interactive resume. This helps users visually tell the story of their professional journey, focusing on the most relevant and impactful career highlights. The product was originally born out of a need to address gaps in traditional resumes and LinkedIn profiles by converting them into engaging, data-driven graphs for hiring managers.

The Challenge

Target Audience

Manish Pandit, an engineering leader at Facebook, faced overwhelming amounts of resumes and interviews in his hiring process. He identified the need for a tool that would help candidates distill and summarize key elements of their careers, creating a tailored narrative for hiring managers. This was the inspiration behind Curve.

Visualizing Career Growth

The Nimi Solution

LinkedIn Integration (First Version)

Users could generate graphs by signing in via LinkedIn. This process visualized their career timeline and key milestones. However, when LinkedIn restricted API access, the team needed to innovate.

Manual PDF Upload and Work History Input

Nimi implemented a PDF upload function, allowing users to generate the graph using exported career data from LinkedIn. This feature was further enhanced with manual work history input, ensuring that users could still benefit from Curve even without API access.

Custom Graph Generator

After collecting user data through manual or PDF inputs, Nimi created a fully customizable graph generator. This included annotations, curve customizations, title, and industry-specific data points to help users present a comprehensive and personalized career story.

Use of quirky hand-drawn elements to give a personal, artisanal feel.

User Experience

Simple navigation that focuses on core actions: booking fittings and exploring collections.

Immersive Gameplay Experience

We designed an immersive user experience for four game types — Wolf, Nassau, Round Robin, and Skins. Our team integrated GHIN APIs to deliver real-time data on golf course layouts, handicaps, and game performance, allowing users to see their progress and location on the course.

Real-Time Scorecard System

Our redesigned scorecard feature eliminates the need for paper scorekeeping. With real-time updates, users can track their scores effortlessly. We ensured the UI was clean, with minimal distractions, allowing users to focus on the game and enjoy their experience with friends.

UI/UX Design Process for Curve

Discovery

Identified target users as job seekers and hiring managers who prioritize data visualization in the hiring process.

Wireframing

Focused on a clear user journey that starts with easy data input (PDF upload or manual) and culminates in intuitive career graph visualization.

Prototyping & Interaction Design

Developed interactive prototypes to ensure users can easily customize their graphs with annotations, industry-specific metrics, and data points that best highlight their achievements.

UI Design

Employed a minimalistic design approach with clean, easy-to-read fonts and a neutral color palette, allowing the user-generated graphs to be the focal point.

Usability Testing

Conducted multiple rounds of testing with target users to refine the PDF upload process, manual entry workflows, and overall graph visualization experience.
